UCSD won the 2013 NAIOP San Diego University Challenge for its development concept at a 53k SF site within the I.D.E.A. District in Downtown San Diego. The winning proposal, called The Remmen, consists of a 25-story mixed-use building containing local retail, creative office space, 189 micro units, 378 condos, and a 2,000 SF rooftop brewery. (You can take the college kid out of campus, but... ) The proposal also includes an eco roof and a ground-floor space dedicated to the Steve Nash Foundation, which assists underserved children. The judges included Lincoln Property's Brig Black, Community Housing Works' Anne Wilson, Lowe Enterprises' Mike McNerney, Cruzan Monroe's Dennis Cruzan, and US Bank's Jim Nigro.
